War das ein Hitchcock-Finale:-)! Am Dienstag hatten Carsten Sacher (der zweite Schweizer Athlet am Start am Deca) und ich am Flughafen Kloten eingecheckt. Ganze anderthalb Stunden hatte es gedauert, bis uns das Swiss-Personal sagen konnte, ob unser Flug am Mittwoch, 22. Oktober wegen des Streiks planmässig abheben wird.
Nachdem unser Gepäck so umgeteilt worden war, dass es den Vorschriften entsprechend akzeptiert wurde, konnten wir die Velokoffer endlich in der Sperrgut-Abteilung abgeben. Einmal mehr hat sich der Vorabend-check-in mehr als bewährt. So konnte ich am Mittwochmorgen nur mit dem Handgepäck und ohne das 78 Kilo schwere, zusätzliche "Bagage" an den Flughafen fahren. Als ich am Dienstagabend in den Medien noch las, dass der Flughafen wegen Umwetter teilweise ganz gesperrt wurde, war es mit meinen Nerven ganz vorbei. "Wenn wir nur unsere Reise nach Leon planmässig hinter uns bringen können", dachte ich ...
Am 22. Oktober wurde der erste Lufthansa-Flug um 8.10 Uhrvon Zürich nach Frankfurt gestrichen. Zum Glück hatten wir die Maschine um 11.42 Uhr gebucht! Da wurde uns erst richtig bewusst, wie viel Glück wir hatten. Die totale Erleichterung kam aber doch erst auf, als der "Vogel" bei unserem Gate angerollt kam. In Frankfurt ist dann meine Betreuerin Alexandra Weissberg dazugestiegen. Ein kurzes "Hallo", und schon sassen wir für die nächsten zehn Stunden eingepfercht auf dem Weg nach Mexiko City.
Der Transfer in Mexiko verlief reibungslos. Drei Stunden hatten wir Zeit, um das Terminal zu wechseln, alle nötigen Papiere auszufüllen und neu einzuchecken. In Leon angekommen, wurden wir vom Veranstalter abgeholt. Jetzt ging es schnell: In 40 Minuten durch Leon gefahren, Hotelzimmer in Empfang genommen und um Mitternacht Ortszeit einen Hechtsprung ins Bett. Wir waren alle erleichtert, das es so reibungslos ablief:-)!
